Case Description
New to my area, went to the first Dentist I could find with 3rd from right lower tooth with huge old silver filling, the back of the tooth had chipped away, still have the front and sides. She removed all the old filling for a partial crown. I asked if I needed a root canal. She said the no, everything looked fine. Placed temp on. I paid 1500.00 up front for it all to be finished. After she put the temp on, I had severe pain waiting the 2 weeks for the permanent. Went yesterday for the perm. told her about the pain, She looks and says yes you do need a root canal, the nerve is exposed now. (Why didn't she see this before?) Then sent the receptionist in to tell me it would be 1200.00 more dollars. Told her I didn't have any more money, I gave them my last dime to fix this tooth. Dr. said the nerve had to come out, so removed it, but would not finish with the proper filling. She filled the canal with clove oil and put the permanent crown on saying that would buy me time to come up with the money for the proper finishing of the tooth. Is this orthodox treatment? I've never been to a dentist that would not finish the job, especially when I paid that much cash up front. And I think that's a ridiculus amount to pay to put the nerve canal filling in. I feel like a walking time bomb, don't know when this tooth will cause extreme pain again. Please advise. My email is dlhm25@yahoo.com thank you Debra Henderson

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.
