Case Description
I was reffered to a dentist to give me six Lumineers. After taking my money and starting the work, he told me I wasn't a candidate and would need crowns instead. I have a regular dentist who could have done the same crowns. Among other things he has done, one afternoon it was getting late so he sent his Hygenist home. He made a sexual comment/suggestion to me regarding what I would get if I was a good girl. I was shocked and humiliated, and I don't want to go back to him. I have one more appointment left, but I'm scared to go back there. I have told my family but of course, they don't believe me, because he was so nice to them when they took our money. We gave him 7,000 cash and 4,000 in insurance payments to give me six crowns and a root canal. He is now suggesting more root canals he said I have to have even though I don't have any pain in any more teeth. I have emailed the ADA and some lawyers, but no one ever gets back to me. What should I do? Please help, I'm scared of him.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

My suggestion would be to contact the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations if you feel inappropriate behavior occurred. If you need the name of a well qualified attorney to represent you, please feel free to contact me for a couple of recommendations.I would also recommend that you not be alone in the room with this individual. There should be an assistant, hygenist , or other witness present at all times for your protection.

Once tension and fear like this occurs in your relationship with your caretaker, continuing care would most likely be too stressful. You should contact the Department of Professsional Regulation in Springfield and advise them of your situation and try to get suggestions on how to proceed. Remember that if you proceed with this dentist and allow him to bond the veneers and do the root canal and there are complications with your care, you may need to see this dentist several more times and then it would be difficult to explain and justify your initial feelings since you continued returning. Consult an attorney about getting a refund and proceeding with treatment elsewhere. The attorney will know how to advise the dentist and malpractice insurance company of the situation in a way that may justify a quick termination of the relationship and a financial refund to you.
