Case Description
Got a cavity filled, and had pain about a week later. Turns out the tooth she drilled/filled cracked, and I needed a crown. I was upset thinking her cavity compromised the tooth and resulted in the crack and crown. Spoke with a dentist friend of mine who made the analogy of a glass breaking in the dishwasher...sometimes it just happens. Last week I had routine cleaning, and she noticed a small chip, said I needed cavity. Got the cavity. She shaved it down as best I could tell. My mouth was very numb and it was hard to tell. She told me if, after numbness wore off, it was bothering me to come back and she would reduce it more. First five days were ok, and now I'm having serious pain when I chew on that side of my mouth. I fear I've got another broken tooth, and will need another crown. I was angry the first time, and If my suspicions are realized, will be furious this time. What should I do?

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
  • Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
  • Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description, special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
  • Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
  • Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors. Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.
